The incorporation of green building strategies and energy efficiency were paramount on for build-out for a multinational financial firm’s new San Francisco office in the South Financial District. Aligned with the company’s business philosophy and commitment to investing in sustainability, the client aimed to achieve LEED v4 Platinum certification and WELL Certification and engaged BCCI to provide general contracting and sustainability consulting services to meet both of those goals.

BCCI’s sustainability team was actively involved with the design and construction teams during design development to assist with the selection of materials. From the furniture to the finishes, the office space features eco-friendly materials. Aktura ceilings, made of recycled material, were installed in two high traffic areas for their sound absorbing properties. Additionally, the pattern of the ceilings purposefully mimics elements in nature, and together with an earth tone color scheme and recycled wood flooring, fulfill the WELL Building Standard biophilic design feature. A white cork TV wall, salvaged Sequoia tree bark in the elevator lobby, and a recycled magazine wall covering in the phone rooms were all subtle sustainable elements incorporated the space which meet both LEED and WELL requirements. Glass storefronts on conference rooms and private offices and reflective materials in corridors amplify daylight and offer views of the outdoors from every vantage point. Automatic shades reduce glare and adjust depending on the amount of natural light entering the space, which cuts down on eye strain and has the added benefit of lowering energy use.

The result of diligent planning and impeccable attention to detail, the workplace comprises the green elements and functionality the client envisioned for their new office. The project is currently submitted for certification under LEED ID+C: Commercial Interiors rating system and was recently WELL Certified™ to the Gold level for New and Existing Interiors.
