Olympus Surgical Technologies America selected BCCI as the general contractor for its new National Service Center West. The property, which is the company’s largest service and repair facility globally, is a two-story steel frame concrete tilt-up structure that encompasses over 19,000 square feet of high-bay warehouse space, over 40,000 square feet of production labs, and 40,000 square feet of mixed-use office and amenities spaces.

The project was divided into six areas, with construction starting in phases. A key focus was the build-out of the production space for equipment repair and the high-bay warehouse space and rack systems. Other areas of the building that were renovated include the main entrance, open office environment, conference rooms, training area, focus rooms, and cafeteria, which were modernized to reflect the company’s culture and new ways of working.

The tenant improvements included retrofitting the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire and life safety systems to bring them up to modern standards to support the needs of the specialized repair labs and the warehouse space. New fiber-optic cable was installed to upgrade the data, security, and audio-visual systems throughout the building. The property was also reclassified from Type V-B construction to Type III-B, non-combustible wall construction to accommodate a control area for the storage, handling, and use of hazardous materials in the Class C lab space.

Site improvements included ancillary structural steel supports for new rooftop HVAC units, a new concrete pad for a 275 kW diesel generator, ADA parking upgrades, and new building signage.

With 60 percent more space than its previous location, the now complete advanced, high-tech facility provides more room for Olympus’ 700+ employees to operate and positions the company well for future growth.
