When software company Ellie Mae relocated its corporate headquarters, BCCI Construction was hired to provide general contractor and LEED consulting services for the new office space. Beginning in preconstruction, BCCI’s Real Time Estimator program was instrumental in very quickly bringing design, schedule and budget goals into alignment. A design-build MEP approach was used for a more integrated planning and design process. Prior to commencing construction, BCCI produced a detailed site logistics plan which involved hoisting materials through windows in order to protect the building’s newly renovated lobby. The workplace comprises an executive top floor with a custom cut wood ceiling made of sustainably forested wood and all-glass office fronts, allowing daylight to flow into the center of the space; four floors of open office space which include lounge spaces and meeting rooms with video conferencing capabilities; and a gaming area with specialized golf simulator.
To support the company’s sustainability goals, LED light fixtures were installed to reduce lighting power by over 35 percent. In the breakrooms and restrooms, low flow fixtures were selected to reduce water consumption by over 35 percent. All materials, including furniture, were low-VOC to enhance indoor air quality. In addition to material selections and energy savings, a Green Cleaning policy and an Electronic Waste Recycling program were implemented to reduce the introduction of toxins in the work environment and reduce overall waste. As a result of these efforts, the project received LEED-CI Gold certification.
