Gemdale USA hired BCCI for the design-build renovation of the main office and elevator lobby at 4500 N. 1st Street in San Jose, whereby BCCI completed both the design and construction. To differentiate the property from other Silicon Valley office buildings, the client aimed to attract tenants with an urban oasis feel. The lobby design highlights the site’s location, where the business corridor bustle meets the natural marsh and salt ponds of the San Francisco Bay. As visitors enter, they first see a vibrant two-story preserved moss wall installation inspired by the colors and shapes of the nearby salt ponds. Natural materials like concrete and wood are celebrated, and geometry created by the floor finishes and overhead architectural gestures guides visitors towards the bank of elevators. Additionally, an accent paint treatment was applied to the building exterior so that the property was more visible from the nearby freeway.

“Having gone through the integrated delivery method with BCCI, I am forever converted! I was skeptical before but the lobby build-out of our flagship office location in the South Bay was such a success in every way. Everyone who’s walked into our lobby can’t stop praising that our lobby has a unique and refreshing design.

Construction budget was strictly adhered to and the weekly constant “bio-feedback-like” cost estimate was key to optimizing design materials that we could afford and are happy with.

I had the opportunity to work with a stellar in-house design and precon team that did all the legwork and heavy lifting for me. Their budget conscious sensitivity was second to none while maintaining the highest design quality my dollars can afford.

BCCI’s one-stop-shop approach is now my preferred way to build.”
